You Are Enough!
By Martha Eleftheriou When was the last time you sat down and told yourself “Good job! You did the best you can! You are enough?” For most of us, telling ourselves these words is rare or never. We live in a culture in which being busy is prized and valued. People are doing more now than they ever have, and yet, it never seems to be enough! Why do we feel this way? It’s because we’ve lost touch with our true nature. Our true nature is of divine essence. We are spiritual beings and when we don’t have a strong connection with our spiritual selves, we seek fulfillment and validation from external sources. External sources include anything from work, partners, friends, family, and material things like money, houses, cars, jewelry, clothes, shoes etc… We have been raised and conditioned to believe that success and fulfillment come from the acquisition of external things (mentioned above) and we work relentlessly to try and feel good about ourselves through the acquisition of these externals. Unfortunately, many of us go to bed at night not feeling fulfilled and feeling like we haven’t done enough! I’d like to offer you 3 strategies to cultivate a feeling of being enough! 1. Remind yourself you are a spiritual being first having a human experience, and any type of fulfillment must come from an internal, spiritual place. As spiritual beings, external things cannot satisfy our spiritual nature. Only a strong spiritual connection to the universe, God, your higher self (or any word you would like to insert here) is necessary in order to feel fulfilled. With this in mind, commit to a daily spiritual practice. This could be prayer, meditation, a nature walk, artistic expression, or anything which connects you to your spirit. 2. Be present in the moment. Notice where your mind is when you’re playing with your children, talking to a friend or at work. Are you present in the moment or is your mind thinking about something that happened in the past or may happen in the future? Bring your awareness to the present moment and do your best to live one day at a time! 3. Do Less! Yes, you read this correctly! Start to simplify your life and schedule by actually doing less. This may mean saying no to some social engagements, limiting extra-curricular activities,(yes even for the kids) and scheduling in time for silence, reflection, listening to music, journaling and/or for doing nothing! Sometimes our best moments in life are the ones in which they just happened organically with no thought or preparation. Just be and notice what happens and how you feel! By implementing these tools, you will grow your spiritual connection to all that is and slowly start to feel better about yourself. The beauty is that the less you do and the less you feel you need to acquire, the more filled up you will be! You will soon realize that you are enough just as you are because you are a divine child of the universe! Because of this simple and yet profound truth- You are enough! |
