Mindful Mom Spring Cleaning
by Teresa Lazzaro
It's spring! The snow has melted, sun is shining and you finally get to open your windows and breath in fresh, glorious air! All good, right? That's is until you think of that dreaded, daunting task that's rolls around every year with spring ... spring cleaning!
Just the thought of going through my closets and my kids' closets make me cringe. Cleaning, purging and repeat. I decided to take a different approach this year. Rather than put all my emphasis on spring cleaning my home, I decided this year to put the focus on spring cleaning my mind, body and soul by doing the following:
1. Reassess my diet and determine what adjustments I could make. Lately I have been lacking in energy (most likely due to lack of sleep as my son sleeps with my husband and I). Nonetheless, I know there's room for improvement. Perhaps less coffee and carbs and and increase water intake, fruit and vegetables.
2. Exercise - I recently returned to yoga, which is one of my favourite exercises. I love how it encompasses the mind, body and soul and I always feel amazing afterwards. With the weather improving I am going to start walking outside again. It is so liberating to go outside on a sunny day with the sun and fresh air on your face and appreciate what life has to offer.
3. Choose a new mantra and affirmation - seasons change and so should my mantra and affirmations. Bottom line. And finally for the best one of all ...
4. Go away with my girlfriends!!! No husband, no kids. Luckily, one of my girlfriends has graciously offered to host a girls weekend at her cottage. No husband, no kids, no cooking or cleaning. Pure relaxation with good company and wine! How could I say no?
Taking the time to better myself means I will be more focused, productive and overall one happy mama!
Sending all you mindful moms out there positive vibes as you navigate through the spring season.
